Winnie Bagoes in the city has been closed temporarily for repairs following the earthquake, but that does not mean that loyal Winnies fans have to miss out on what owner Geoff Cavell describes as "the best pizzas in Christchurch". Winnie Bagoes at Ferrymead is open for business, so you can still enjoy your Winnies pizzas while avoiding the current traffic problems in the central business district. Just a few minutes east of the city, Winnies Ferrymead has plenty of on- site parking and boasts a pleasant courtyard area as well as a variety of indoor seating options, a warm, friendly bar area and big screens for comfortable viewing. Although in a new, modern building, many of the same elements as Winnies City are to be found, including the same great atmosphere. "Functions can be catered for, and people are advised to book as soon as possible for Christmas parties as space is limited," says Ferrymead manager Mike Knowles. "We can take up to 100 guests - simply discuss your options with the staff." Popular with regulars are the irresistible chicken chilli shrimp, Moroccan lamb and honey beef pizzas. The menu also offers flavours such as Blue Belle, containing sundried tomatoes and broccoli, or souvlaki pizza, with either chicken or lamb on a peanut satay base. And, while Winnies is known for serving quality pizzas, it is not just a pizza restaurant - there is a wide range of pasta dishes, salads and calzones. New to the menu are barbecued ribs with plum sauce served on a bed of wedges. A children's menu is also offered. As for lunch, a variety of $10 lunches are available. Even better, if you are pressed for time you can pre-order by phoning ahead. "Winnies is a great brand that has been tried and tested for the last 16 years," Geoff Cavell says. "Winnies City will be back. Definitely."
