South Padre Island, TX

This is my very first blog ever and not quite sure how to proceed so I'm just going to highlight my trip and see what happens.

Every year after Labor Day, my husband, Jerry, and I head south for an estended stay at the beach at South Padre Island, TX.  We have a condo right on the beach and love looking out over the Gulf and Bay waters.  Storms are especially fascinating to watch--there's something truly fascinating about watching a lightning storm move across the Gulf.

One of the best things about the beaches at SPI is that they are kept clean and the water is that pretty turquoise blue like the Caribbean waters although not as turquoise but certainly enough for us!  Also, we're in the U.S. which is a big plus.

If you're adventurous, there's Matormoros, Mexico just across the border at Brownsville or if you prefer a small Mexican town, Neuvo Progresso is about an hour's drive up the Valley from the Island and is like a 50s American town.  We prefer N Progresso to the large city of Matormoras  and feel much safer there.  There are several good restaurants as well as many pharmacias, liquor stores, and dentists--all heavily used by many Americans called Winter Texans....guess Jerry and I are Fall Texans :).

This is surely enough for a start and maybe Chapter 2 will follow....stay tuned to find out of it happens. Later....

yes, we do have a dentist in Neuvo Progresso that we like and have used at least half dozen times.  Have tried 3-4 others but keep coming back to Juan--his office is clean and very modern--especially for Mexico--and they speak pretty good English--you can understand and communicate with them--some, not so good.

His office is immediatly left of our favorite restaurant, LaFogato, and just down from the store, Canada, which has everything imaginable you'd want as well as a pharmacia which has very good prices.  When I get home I'll look up his business card and give you his exact name, etc.  Also, not 100% but believe he takes American dental insurance if you happen to have some but if you don't you won't believe the prices for their work.  We've had everything from a simple cleaning to crowns done and they've rivaled any US work we've had done and for a whole lot less!!

FYI:  A little cloudy here today and cooler but still low 80s--lovin' it!!
